The Education Committee has a diverse set of responsibilities. It is responsible for the Chamber’s Scholarship Program, under which The Chamber gives seven scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 each to students of local area schools. These scholarship awards may be used by the winners at colleges and universities of their choices.
The Committee is also very involved in The Chamber’s Annual Holiday Parade and the Walk/Run Mile (where an interschool competition will be introduced this year); The WestFest Land and Sea Festival, along with its
As a direct result of this Committee’s advocacy, The Chamber Board of Directors now includes a Student Representative from a local high school. The Education Committee is involved in planning and implementing other Chamber programs. For example, it arranges the logistics of certain activities within Leadership Palms West. The Education Committee is functioning well. Always eager to do even more, it is looking to expand in size and interest. The group meets at the Palms West Chamber office, generally on the last Monday of each month, at 4:30 p.m. The Committee is always looking for a few new members. Just come out to a meeting—call the Chamber Office first, (561) 790-6200, since there are occasions when school or Chamber events cause schedule changes.
